In the rough-and-tumble frontier days Vicksburg was known wide and far for gambling at the riverfront at Catfish Row. Early city leaders fought to the remove gambling element. Their efforts to do so are the source of much local folklore. However, dock side gaming was legalized in Mississippi in 1990.
