Vicksburg Living History – Located in the Vicksburg National Military Park. Scheduled programs and Demonstrations include:
In Memory of Men – An 18-minute introductory video on the campaign and siege of Vicksburg, and the city’s significance in American history and the Civil War.
Rifle Demonstration – (10-20 mins) Casualty rates increased dramatically during the Civil War due to the evolution of nineteenth century firearms. Learn about the weaponry and daily drills.
Artillery Demonstration – (15-30 mins) Hear the roar and smell the smoke as a Civil War cannon is fired again! Watch a cannon detachment load and fire nineteenth century artillery.
Soldiers Choice – (15-30 mins) Join interpreters for talks on fortifications, artillery and rifles used during the siege, life in the trenches, Civil War medicine, civilian life, life in occupied Vicksburg, and more!

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation proudly presents “The Dual Demo, Art and Cooking Show”. This entertaining event will consist of an art and cooking demonstration by Robert St. John and Wyatt Waters. This unique show will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 6:00 p.m. General admission is $25. A book signing will follow the show. This exclusive event showcases the fascinating talents of both Robert and Wyatt. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is proudly partnering with the Vicksburg Theatre Guild to present the “Southern Drama Kids”. The performing arts classes will begin on August 19 and run through December. These classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:00pm in the SCHF Auditorium. The fee for the program is $50 per student. Southern Drama Kids is open to any child ages 12-18. Trained instructors will guide the students through stage crafts, improvisation, projection/delivery and reading/auditions. This program is designed to build acting skills, creative thinking, speaking skills, confidence, leadership abilities, self-esteem and enthusiasm. At the end of the program, an “Academy Awards” will be held for the students to showcase what they have learned to friends and family. Space is limited and reservations are required. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation’s free after-school art program will begin on August 28th. Open to any child in 1st through 6th grade, the program will accept 60 students for the class on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. The River Kids Program is designed to encourage children to discover and develop their creative talents. It will expose creativity through drawing, painting, crafts, collage, ceramics, sculpture and many more exciting techniques. Experienced, accredited educators plan and teach each class. The program is free, but will require a full semester commitment from the parents. It will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
