The Jacqueline House African American
Museum is Vicksburg’s only museum for
the exclusive study of history and culture
of people of African descent in the
Vicksburg - Warren County area. The collection
of over 20,000 items has material in all
formats: photographs, books, manuscripts,
music, posters, newspapers, and rare ephemera.
In addition, the collection houses selected
artifacts, including items dating back to the
slave period. By appointment only.

in Vicksburg, the Old Court House Museum
welcomes visitors to stroll through nine rooms,
each one filled
with exciting
pieces of history.
The Old
Court House
Museum showcases
thousands
of artifacts
ranging from
pre-Columbian
implements in
the Pioneer Room, to the contents of ladies’
wardrobes in the Costume Room, and, of
course, a plethora of fine artifacts from the
Civil War. With nearly 15,000 square feet
of exhibition space and an entire city block of
lovely grounds, this National Historic Landmark
consistently succeeds in igniting each guest’s
imagination. The Old Court House Museum
also contains a unique gift shop, offering
authentic Civil War relics. The Old Court
House Museum is always eager to share the
story of Vicksburg with its guests. Tours at
the Old Court House are self-guided.

Southern Cultural Heritage Complex

The Southern Cultural Heritage Complex is
an affiliate of the Mississippi Museum of Art.
This cultural center tells the story of the Sisters
of Mercy, who, for 132 years, educated children
and nursed the sick at Saint Francis Xavier Academy and Convent. Tours showcase: the
Cobb House (circa 1830), the original school
and hospital barracks during the Civil War; the
Gothic Revival Convent (1868); the Italianate
Auditorium (1885); and the 1937 Academy.

Vicksburg Battlefield Museum

Houses the Gray & Blue Naval Society,
collection of models and the film presentation
of the “Vanishing Glory.” Features the world’s
largest collection of WBTS ship models, the
only diorama of the Siege of Vicksburg, the
Vicksburg story as told by the civilians and
soldiers, a collection of riverboat models and
naval vessels with Mississippi names. Film
begins every 45 minutes.

VNMP is open daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas

The Vicksburg battlefield includes 1,330
monuments and markers, a 16-mile tour road,
a restored Union gunboat, and a National
Cemetery. CD’s available at the Visitor’s Center,
where life-sized exhibits and artifacts from
the Siege of Vicksburg are on display. An
18-minute film which recounts the campaign
is shown on the hour and half-hour. Guided
tours available - Reservations recommended.
Entrance Fees: Per Vehicle - $8.00 (valid 7 days).

Yesterday's Children Antique Doll and Toy Museum

Experience a stroll through childhood as you
view dolls and toys from 1843 to present.
The museum houses one of the largest collections
in the United States of rare 19th and
20th century French and German bisque dolls.
It includes fascinating displays of antique teddy
bears (Steiff and others), Shirley Temple dolls
(1934 to present), Madame Alexanders, movie
star dolls, composition dolls, Barbies, current
artist dolls, doll houses and carriages, and
doll accessories. Boys’ toys include trains,
pedal cars, rocking horses, G.I. Joes, toy soldiers,
cars, planes, trucks, guns, and construction
and farm equipment. The museum gift
shop offers an impressive array of artist dolls,
Southern Belles, collector dolls, paper doll
books, Civil War memorabilia and boys’ toys.
